Meet ERC Parliamentarian Michael Gallaway
Law enforcement, veterans affairs, the arts, and civic affairs are just some of the pursuits that interest Eastside Republican Club board member Michael Gallaway.
Gallaway, who goes by “Mike,” said he likes the ERC because, “It keeps me informed on political and legislative matters that concern me, and provides an atmosphere where I can associate with people who share my conservative political views.”
“The Eastside Republican Club has great speakers at its meetings, and allows me to participate in the political process,” said Gallaway.
Elected ERC director in 2007, the Grosse Pointe Woods resident said, “I like working for the organizations to which I am committed.” For 2008, Gallaway serves as parliamentarian.
Coming from Gallaway, that is a significant statement. In addition to the ERC, Gallaway is involved in more than 20 other organizations, including the American Legion, the Detroit Institute of Arts, and the Detroit Police Choirboys Association.
He is also a member of the Wayne County Republican Committee, United Auto Workers Retirees Association, and the Carville Star Association, an organization that supports Leprosy research.
After retiring in 1992 as a police lieutenant with the City of Detroit, Gallaway spent the next ten years as a field agent for the Michigan Department of Corrections.
In addition to civic pursuits, Gallaway enjoys traveling with his wife, the former Margaret Handel of St. Louis, Missouri, and spending time with his five grandchildren.
Gallaway's son, also “Michael,” is married to “Maki,” and lives in New York City. Living in Cincinnati is daughter, Dr. Mary Ann Gallaway, and husband Eric Copenhaver. Gallaway's second daughter, Maureen, lives in Warren with husband Mike Taylor.
