To Host Luncheon for Terri Lynn Land
Recognizing women in politics and government service, the Republican Women's Club of Grosse Pointe will host a luncheon with Michigan Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land on Friday, February 29, 2008, at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial. 
According to Cynthia Cassell of the club, cost for the noon luncheon is $21 per person.
Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m. with lunch and the program in the Alger House dining room starting at noon. For more information, contact Marti Miller, 886-3785.
Land was elected to office in November of 2002. With more than 1.7 million votes, she carried more votes than any other candidate on that year's ballot, securing her place as Michigan's top-elected Republican official.
The granddaughter of Dutch immigrants, Land held her first job as a teenager. She worked alongside her Grandma Jenny as they cleaned rooms in the family's hotel. It was this family business that taught Secretary Land the value of hard work.
Of all her accomplishments, Land is most proud of her family. She married Dan Hibma in 1983, and the couple has two children together, Jessica and Nicholas.
They attend Corinth Reformed Church, where Land was nursery supervisor for many years. A graduate of Grandville High School, she received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Hope College in Holland, Michigan. 
Christmas Luncheon Set for December 10
Cynthia Cassell, president, has announced that the Republican Women's Club of Grosse Pointe will host its annual Christmas Luncheon at 1 p.m., Sunday, December 10, 2006, at Andiamo's Trattoria, Grosse Pointe Woods.
Fall Kick-Off Meeting Set for September 18
Cynthia Cassell has announced that the Republican Women's Club of Grosse Pointe will meet at 5:30 p.m., Monday, September 18, at the Eastside GOP Campaign headquarters.
The headquarters is located just below Moross at 18495 Mack Ave., Detroit (corner of Opal/Cloverly), and has been provided by the Ed Gaffney reelection campaign with the assistance of other GOP supporters.
Dick DeVos Set for Reception at Grosse Pte. War Memorial 
Republican Dick DeVos, campaigning to replace the incumbent Michigan governor, will be guest of honor at a Tuesday, November 15, 2005, reception sponsored by the Women's Republican Club of Grosse Pointe.
According to Cynthia Cassell, newly elected chairman of the women's group, “Our annual fund raiser will be DeVos' first appearance on the eastside of Detroit since he announced his candidacy for governor.”

Representative Gaffney Featured at Republican Women's 2004 Kickoff
District 1 State Representative Edward Gaffney addressed the Republican Women's Club of Grosse Pointe on February 6, 2004, in the Grosse Pointe War Memorial library.
“The time has come for Michigan to stop being the dumping ground for other people's trash,” he said, referring to his backing of a measure approved by the legislature imposing a two-year moratorium on granting permits for new landfills in Michigan.
Gaffney also commented on his co-sponsorship of a resolution just introduced by Rep. Gary Newell to place before voters in the next general election a Constitutional amendment to establish that only marriage between one man and one woman be recognized as valid in Michigan.
Noting that he is serving the second year of a two-year term, Gaffney expressed his gratefulness for the support he has received from the group, and asked for continued support as the general election season approaches.

Reduction of Media Violence, Vulgarity Topic of GOP Dinner Speaker
Broadcast-journalist Teresa Tomeo shared her secrets for making a difference in the media at a November dinner sponsored by the Republican Women's Club of Grosse Pointe. 
She spoke to the group Friday, November 7, 2003, at the Grosse Pointe Hunt Club.
At the top of her list of needed changes is a reduction in violence and vulgarity, which she notes is so common on today's airwaves.
Tomeo, speaking from her more than 20 years of reporting experience in the Detroit radio and TV market, provided practical instruction on how people can be a positive influence on today's media.
Local Republican Women Host Second Annual High Tea
The Republican Women's Club of Grosse Pointe hosted area ladies on Saturday, September 27, 2003, for high tea. 
The event was held in the Villa DuLac Clubhouse on Marter Road, St. Clair Shores.
Hostess Patty Lapansie had asked ladies to “join others in bringing your favourite tea cup with you to enjoy with your tea!”
She reported that last year's even was enjoyed by everyone, and that this year was another success. Ladies under the age of 10 were free, while the cost for all others was a nominal $5. In addition to being served tea and sandwiches, the ladies were treated to special piano entertainment from a number of soloists.
As a result of the social event, three new members were added and a number of others indicated interest in future Club activities.
McKeehan Receives State GOP Honor 
Lita M. McKeehan, Eastside Republican Club member and Chairman of the ERC-PAC, was recently recognized by the Republican Women's  Federation of Michigan as "2003 Republican Woman of the Year" at their 21st annual Tribute to Women banquet.
Members of the Republican Women's Club of Grosse Pointe nominated McKeehan for the honor.
Escorting McKeehan to receive her award was Michigan Republican First Vice Chairman, Andrew "Rocky" Raczkowski. Attendees heard guest speaker Shirley Sadler, Vice President of the National Federation of Republican Women, talk about the significance of women to future GOP victories.
Mary Abel, president of the Federation, presided over this year's event held at the Monroe Golf & Country Club.
Homeland Security was Topic for June Meeting at Coast Guard Station 
Coast Guard Lt. Patricia Mitrowski provided a station tour and briefing for guests and members of the Republican Women's Club of Grosse  Pointe at its Flag Day meeting on Saturday, June 14. Lt. Mitrowski is commander of the U.S. Coast Guard's St. Clair Shores Station.
According to club president, Cheryl Costantino, following a continental breakfast at the Station, the group was taken aboard a Coast Guard vessel, and then shown the unit's hydroplane--designed to travel over ice and snow.
Costantino, said, "We were pleased with the attendance of more than 20 members and guests of all ages. Some of the teenagers even were allowed to try on some of the gear worn by rescuers." >> See photos.
Financial Trends Topic of GOP Women's January Meeting at Hunt Club
Charles "Chip" Kleinbrook, local attorney and stockbroker, addressed the Republican Women's Club of Grosse Pointe at its January meeting.
 Kleinbrook, who has counseled Michigan families on estate matters since 1990, will speak on “market trends and financial issues.”
According to Cheryl Costantino, president of the group, Kleinbrook addressed "very important educational issues."
Costantino reports, "Chip is so knowledgeable as a stockbroker and an attorney that he answered questions about all of our concerns about investing, trusts, or finances."

Mother/Daughter Tea Party
When the Republican Women's Club of Grosse Pointe convened on Saturday, September 14, 2002, the ladies had a decidedly different agenda.
According to Cheryl Costantino, rather than the usual partisan message, the group hosted a Mother/Daughter Tea Party, billed as High Tea.  “This is something we've been wanting to do for a long time,” said Costantino, “to bring generations together--regardless of their ages.”
In addition to a being served tea and sandwiches, the ladies were treated to a flag etiquette demonstration by Mary Jarosz and special music provided by Englishman Drew Curtis.
The Mother/Daughter Tea was held in the Lounge of the Grosse Pointe Woods Presbyterian Church. For information on future events, Costantino invites eastside women to contact the ERC or to call her directly at (313) 371-6333.
October Women's Club Meeting
The group's October meeting was combined with the ERC Forum Tuesday, October 15, at which local Republican candidates discussed key November General Election campaign issues at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial. >> Details.
2002 Christmas Party
The group's December meeting was the Republican Women's annual Christmas luncheon on Friday, December 6, 2002. Again this year, as a part of their celebration, the ladies made donations of Christmas gifts to the " Toys for Tots" campaign conducted locally by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.
Women Focus on Military Readiness 
Elaine Donnelly, President of the Center for Military Readiness, addressed the Republican Women's Club and answered questions on  Friday, May 10, 2002. The evening event was held at the Grosse Pointe Hunt Club and included dinner.
The Center for Military Readiness is an independent, nonpartisan educational organization which takes a leadership role in promoting sound military personnel policies in the armed forces. It is a unique alliance of civilian, active duty and retired military people, and is the only organization that concentrates on military personnel issues full-time.
Donnelly is a former member (1984-86) of the Pentagon's Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services (DACOWITS), and the 1992 Presidential Commission on the Assignment of Women in the Armed Services. Its Board includes distinguished retired military personnel and civilians who have volunteered advice and guidance on issues concerning military personnel.

Republican Women Celebrate, Contribute to "Toys for Tots" Fund
The Republican Women's Club of Grosse Pointe celebrated the holidays on December 5, 2001, by making a donation of Christmas  gifts to the " Toys for Tots" campaign conducted locally by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.
According to Alice W. Baetz, the holiday celebration included “a terrific meal, a brief meeting, and a Christmas gift exchange.” She reported that the event, at the home of member Lois Smith, also provided an opportunity for members to give toys to the children's charity project.
Republican Women Learn of W.W.II Roles 
Recounting their personal W.W.II experiences, three women spoke at the May 16, 2001, meeting of the Republican Women's Club of Grosse Pointe.
 The ladies were Iris Gribble, Janet Sharpe, and Regina Trembath. These remarkable women recounted personal memories of their military service during World War II.
According to Shirley Mantay, club president, "Though they each served in different corners of the world, their bravery and fortitude were impressive."
The Wednesday, May 16, 2001, meeting was held at the First English Evangelical Lutheran Church, 800 Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Woods.
